Your profile settings help shoppers get to know the person behind the products. Here's how to fill out each field in the About You section.

Navigate to the Account Settings page from your profile menu.

  1. Click your name in the top-right corner of the page
  2. Select Account Settings from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the left sidebar, click "About you" under Account settings.

Profile photo

This image appears next to your name whenever you leave a comment or interact with buyers on the platform. Choose a clear, well-lit photo where your face is easy to recognize — a friendly, approachable image helps build trust with shoppers.

Accepted formats: .PNG, .JPG, or .GIF only. Images cannot be larger than 20MB.


First, Last & Display Name

Your name fields control how you are identified both internally and publicly on the platform. Your first and last name are for your account only and are not shown to shoppers. Your display name is what appears publicly — this can be your shop name, a nickname, or your full name.


My Story

This appears on your public profile and is your opportunity to tell people who you are and what drives your craft. Share how you got started, what inspires you, and what makes your work special.

Shoppers on Handmade.com are looking for authentic, human stories behind the products they buy. Be personal, specific, and genuine — your story is one of your most powerful selling tools.


Quick Intro (one-liner)

A short one-liner that appears as a brief summary of who you are on your profile. Think of it as your personal tagline — a punchy, memorable phrase that captures your style or mission.


Location

Your location is displayed on your public profile and helps shoppers connect with makers in their region. We recommend including your city, state and country.

Ready to Onboard

Once you've been approved as a Handmade.com seller, you'll receive a congratulations email inviting you to set up your shop.

If you already have a Handmade.com account, log in using the same email address to which your approval was sent. If you don't have an account yet, create one using the same email address — this is important because it's tied to your approved seller status. You can update your email address later from your account settings once you're logged in.

From there, select Manage Your Store from the user drop-down in the upper right corner of the homepage. If you do not see this in the drop-down, please log out and log back in or refresh the page.

From there, follow the onboarding prompts. The process will walk you through four steps:

  • The Ethical Pledge — our commitment to keeping the marketplace authentic. Every seller signs before opening their shop.
  • Your Storefront — your shop name, description, and the details that tell the story of your work.

The Store Details page is where you manage your store's public profile on Handmade.com. Completing it fully helps customers trust your shop, find your products, and connect with your brand. Fill in the sections below and click Save Changes when you are done. You can return and update any of these fields at any time.

This is the public-facing name of your store as it appears to shoppers across the site. Type the name exactly as you want it to display in your shop. Keep it consistent with how you brand yourself elsewhere.

Store Description

The store description gives customers a sense of who you are, what you make, and why your work is special. It appears prominently on your store page. Write a few sentences or a short paragraph describing your store.

Consider including:

  • What types of products you sell
  • Your craft or creative process
  • Your inspiration or background story
  • What makes your items unique or handmade

Store Tagline

The tagline is a short, catchy phrase that captures the essence of your brand. Think of it as your store's motto or slogan. Keep it punchy and memorable. Examples: "Handcrafted with love in New England" or "Jewelry as unique as you are."

Store Measurements

These settings control how product dimensions and weights are displayed to your customers.

  1. In the left dropdown, choose your unit system: Imperial (inches, feet, pounds) or Metric (centimeters, kilograms).
  2. In the right dropdown, choose your weight unit: Ounces or Grams (or the equivalent in your chosen system).

Store Contact Information

These contact details are used for order notifications, customer service, and account verification. Your phone number is required. Your store address is used for shipping calculations, tax purposes, and displaying your general location to customers.

You do not need to use your home address. A P.O. Box or business address is perfectly acceptable if you prefer more privacy.

Store Highlights & Fun Facts

Highlights are badges and short notes that tell customers important things about your business — like whether it's women-owned, community-focused, or a source of inspiration. They appear on your store page and help customers feel connected to your values. This is optional and you can enter more than one. Be authentic. Only select highlights that genuinely describe you or your business. These badges build trust with shoppers.

Store Theme

The store theme sets a color palette for your store's public page. This is a purely visual choice and can be changed at any time. Choose a color that complements your products and brand personality.

Store Banner Images

Your banner is the first visual customers see when they land on your store page. You can upload up to 5 images or videos to create a rotating showcase. Use your banner to make a strong first impression. Show your best-selling products, a peek behind the scenes of your creative process, or a lifestyle image that captures the spirit of your store. Image files must be .PNG, .JPG, or .JPEG and no larger than 20MB. Video files must be .mp4 or .mov and no larger than 500MB.

  1. Click the Select File or Take photo button inside the upload area, or drag and drop files directly into the dashed box.
  2. Select an image (.PNG, .JPG, or .JPEG format, max 20MB) or a video (.mp4 or .mov format, max 500MB).
  3. Repeat up to 5 times to build a gallery of banner media.

Save

The Save Changes button may appear grayed out until all required fields (marked with *) are completed. Once you have filled out all required fields, you must save your changes for them to take effect.

To view your storefront, click your Store Name at the top of the page after saving all changes.

Connecting Stripe

Stripe is Handmade.com's payment partner, handling all seller payouts securely. You'll be prompted to connect your Stripe account during onboarding — this step is required before you can start selling.

During onboarding, click Get Verified when prompted and follow the steps provided by Stripe to complete your verification.

Need to update your Stripe information?

If you ever need to change your connected Stripe account, navigate to the Finances tab in your dashboard and select Payouts.

Connecting Shippo

To offer your customers real-time calculated shipping rates based on their location, you'll need to connect a personal Shippo account. You'll be prompted to connect during onboarding, but if you skipped that step or need to connect it later, you can do so at any time.

How to connect Shippo

Navigate to Store Details in your dashboard. At the top, you will see a button to Connect Your Shippo Account.

Click the button and you'll be taken directly to Shippo to either log into an existing account or sign up for a new one. Follow the on-screen prompts from Shippo.


Once complete, you'll be brought back to your Handmade.com dashboard. Make sure to hit Save at the bottom of the screen to confirm the connection.

Shipping Profiles

Shipping Profiles allow you to set up how shipping costs are calculated and displayed to your customers at checkout. You can create multiple profiles and assign them to different products. To get started, go to Shipping Profiles in your seller dashboard and click Create a Shipping Profile.


Selecting a Shipping Method

When creating a new shipping profile, you will first be prompted to select a shipping fee option. There are three options:

  • Calculated Shipping (Automatic Rates) — Shipping is calculated at checkout based on the buyer's location. Requires connecting to a free Shippo account. The buyer pays the exact shipping cost.
  • Free Shipping (Preferred) — Shipping cost is included in your product price. This is the option buyers love most.
  • Shipping by Weight (You Set the Rates) — You set your own shipping prices based on order weight using a simple table. You control what the buyer pays and which service you use.

Select the option that best fits your products, then click Create a Shipping Profile.


Calculated Shipping

With Calculated Shipping, real-time rates are automatically pulled from USPS based on the buyer's location at checkout.

You must connect a free Shippo account to use this option. If you have not already done so, you can connect a Shippo account by clicking the button at the top of the page and following the on-screen prompts.
  1. Enter a profile name in the Name this profile field. This is for your reference only and is not visible to buyers.
  2. Make sure all store contact information and address is correct.
  3. Check Use as return address if this address should also be used for returns (optional).
  4. Fill in the processing time. This is the time it takes to prepare or make the order.
  5. Under Shipping Service, select the USPS service you use. Available options include:
    • Ground Advantage (~5 business days)
    • First Class Package International (~15 business days)
    • Priority Mail (~2 business days)
    • Priority Mail International (~8 business days)
    • Priority Mail Express (~1 business day)
    • Priority Mail Express International (~5 business days)
  6. Click Save Changes.


Free Shipping

With Free Shipping, the cost of shipping is built into your product price. No shipping fee is charged to the buyer at checkout.

  1. Enter a profile name in the Name this profile field. This is for your reference only and is not visible to buyers.
  2. Make sure all store contact information and address is correct.
  3. Check Use as return address if this address should also be used for returns (optional).
  4. Fill in the processing time. This is the time it takes to prepare or make the order.
  5. Fill in the Delivery Time. This is the time it takes in transit.
  6. Click Save Changes.

You may optionally use the Shipping Estimator tool to help calculate your shipping costs when pricing your products. Click Shipping Estimator to enter package weight, size, and preferred USPS service to get an estimate.


Shipping by Weight

  1. Enter a profile name in the Name this profile field. This is for your reference only and is not visible to buyers.
  2. Make sure all store contact information and address is correct.
  3. Check Use as return address if this address should also be used for returns (optional).
  4. Fill in the processing time. This is the time it takes to prepare or make the order.
  5. Under Shipping location, all 50 states will appear by default. To set a different rate for specific states such as Alaska or Hawaii, click + Add a Specific Location and configure those states separately.
  6. Click Save Changes on your specific location first, then return to your default locations list and remove those states from the original list. This ensures no state is counted twice.
  7. Enter your Default shipping cost. This is the base rate that will apply to orders shipped to the selected states.
  8. Click + Add a Weight Range to set different rates based on order weight. Add as many weight ranges as needed.
  9. Click Save Changes.
Note: If you set up specific rates for a location such as Alaska or Hawaii, be sure to remove those states from your default location setting. If a state appears in both places, it may cause conflicts at checkout.

Tips

  • You can create multiple shipping profiles and assign different profiles to different products. For example, you might use Free Shipping for small lightweight items and Shipping by Weight for larger items.
  • Profile names are for your eyes only. Use clear names like "Free Shipping," "Heavy Items," or "Lightweight" to help yourself stay organized. You might also consider naming your profiles by product type.
  • Make sure all required fields are completed before saving. Required fields are marked with an asterisk (*).
