When a coupon is applied to a sale on Handmade.com, the discount cost is shared between the seller and Handmade.com. How that split works depends on who created the coupon.

Platform-Funded Discounts

Platform-Funded Discounts are coupons created and funded by Handmade.com to help drive traffic and sales across the marketplace. When one of these is applied to your listing, the discount cost is split 50/50 between you and Handmade.com, with your share capped at $2.50.

Example 1 (50/50 split):

  • Product price: $20
  • Platform coupon: $4 off
  • Seller share: $2.00
  • Handmade.com share: $2.00

Example 2 (cap applied):

  • Product price: $50
  • Platform coupon: $10 off
  • Seller share: $2.50 (capped)
  • Handmade.com share: $7.50

If a customer checks out from multiple shops in the same transaction, the seller's share is divided among all shops involved.

Seller-Funded Discounts (Coming Soon)

This will allow you to create coupons for customer promotions within your shop. Handmade.com will contribute up to $2.50 toward the discount—you're responsible for the rest. While this feature isn't available yet, here's a preview of how it will work:

For example:

  • Product price: $50
  • Seller coupon: $10 off
  • Seller cover: $7.50
  • Handmade.com contribution: $2.50 (capped)

The general rule: the cap always applies to the party that didn't create the coupon.

At Handmade.com, we believe the relationship between the platform and our sellers works best when we're in it together. Sharing the cost of discounts is one of the ways we put that into practice, making it possible for both sides to invest in growing your shop and reaching more customers.
