"I was born in 1948 to a conservative family in Delhi. It was necessary for a girl to know cooking, stitching and embroidery apart from all the other household chores. Necessity became passion, and I started teaching sewing and embroidery to younger generations, including my two daughters.
"When my husband shifted our residence to a village far from the city, I found myself teaching stitching and embroidery to new admirers — my neighbors. I started teaching them free of cost.
"I began with dresses and slowly moved to home décor and utilitarian designs like cushion covers, floor mats, handbags, belts, and more. As the number of students grew, so did the demand for our work. Our first customers were our many relatives and friends, then gradually we began offering our designs to shops.
"Little by little, I found I was no longer only a homemaker but also a working woman with seven to nine ladies assisting me. My main concentration has always been on quality.
"I am very much excited to work with you, as I think your concept is unique and I'm excited to be able to sell our designs directly to people overseas."

Rose Admittedly, these journals are smaller than I expected, but that's on me for not reading the description more thoroughly. It turns out that they are perfectly sized for my smallest purse, though! With my previous so-called "small" journals, I was unable to fit the notebook, my planner, my wallet, and all the assorted miscellany. That is not the case with these. Everything fits; they'll even fit in a pocket! As a writer, the convenience of being able to take them anywhere is invaluable. I find them to be ideal for writing haiku and short poems. The quality of the paper is superb, and they are beautiful, as well.

I collect journals, especially unique ones, and I also collect bird figurines in pottery, ceramic and glass and bird paintings. The kingfisher is one of my favorites because it is so colorful. Artisan Asha Prabha has done a masterful job with this handmade paper journal. The back cover reproduces an antique postcard.

These tiny little journals are absolutely adorable! Some people might be deterred by their small size, but I love that they can easily go with you wherever you go. They are perfect for jotting down mantras, prayers, quotes, and lyrics. I use mine daily! They are well crafted and I love the texture of the screen printing. The graphics are vibrant. Overall, I was really pleased with them.

(You can fit a few very short poems, such as haiku or couplets, per page.)
