Odong Junaidi

My name is Odong Junaedi and I was born on June 16, 1959 in Medan, North Sumatra. When I was eight years old I started teaching myself to paint. Learning art by comparative study at an institution of higher education helped me a lot to broaden and improve my creativity. Here in Bali, an island of paradise, an artist can peacefully work and develop his art, so I decided to move to Bali in 1976.

Everyday happenings in society and news from the mass media are important sources of inspiration, besides some art books. Most of the works I created are multiple aspects of human life in the community, mostly from a philosophical point of view. Freedom holding an artist's hand can help to create art based on the esthetical self-genuine principle. Art has to be a result of the heart. The creativity process takes place spontaneously without any plan or force.
