Matilde Toledo

"I was born in Minas Gerais and am an economist. I worked for 26 years in the area of sanitation and urban development, dedicating myself mainly to projects supplying water and drainage in the favelas.

"My artistic experience is quite recent. It was in March of 2002 that I began to experiment with paints and brushes, oriented by painter and professor Bernardii, and from November of that same year I also began studying with Silvio Baptista, a painter and teacher.

"I have dedicated myself with love and enthusiasm to painting in acrylics. My themes are marinas, still lifes and houses, bare and abstract, with a preference for the sea and floral portraits. I mix flowers and geometry. I also find a way of fixing a moment of existence, a subjective impression stolen from time and space, felt through the multiple colors of my canvases.

"I have already participated in collective exhibitions in Curitiba, in Rio de Janeiro and in Teresópolis, winning a number of medals."
