Kwasi George wood sculptures and masks

“I was born in Asamankese in the eastern region of Ghana. I am a hardworking and friendly wood carver. Kwasi George is my name.

“I became attracted to carved items, which increased my desire to learn how to carve. I met a master carver by name of Twum Gordon, and I approached him to assist me in learning how to carve. He was excited about the prospect, and took me through the various stages of carving. My determination and love for what I do are what have brought me this far.

“It was not easy at the initial stage. Handling the tools was quite difficult at first, but after consistent practice, I have improved. I have now taught about 10 people how to carve. These people have set up workshops of their own, and that gives me joy.

“I get my designs through dreams, and sometimes as I work on an item, I get images of new products to develop.

“My goals are to expand my carving business and build a happy home.”
