“When I was little, my parents rarely bought me toys. The abundance of wood as a raw material for sculptures made me creative, and so I made my toys. I've fallen in love with art, especially sculpture because I can express my ideas. Besides sculpting, I also really like automotive, especially old motorbikes--occasionally I go around to new places with my old motorbike. As a spontaneous and unpredictable person, exploring nature can be a stress release for me when I am bored with everyday life.

“I am married and have one very beautiful daughter. After my daughter was born, I felt that my life had gone through a higher stage, because I am not only responsible for myself, but also responsible for my child and wife. I found it quite difficult to support them during the pandemic because Bali was struggling through all of this. It not only impacted the tourism sector but also the artists and craftsmen. But now, I'm quite proud of myself for being able to survive and get through this. Even though the results are not what I expected, I believe the process that I have created will produce the best results. Hard work without talent is a problem; talent without hard work is a disaster.

“I am grateful to have a family that supports one another. Even to run my business, I am assisted by my younger siblings. All of the ideas and designs I do directly and some of the work outside the production process is done by my younger siblings. I feel involved in carrying out and continuing the Balinese tradition. Every form of sculpture in Bali always has its traditional elements. If no more young people learn to sculpt, then who will continue this?

“I am very interested in joining Novica. In addition to expanding the market for my goods, I can also introduce traditional Balinese art which can be expressed in products that keep up with the times."
