About this item

"Golden branches swirl across the canvas, their heart-shaped leaves aligned along the spirals. Saisunee depicts a pipal tree, a variety of fig tree that grows in India. Buddha achieved enlightenment while meditating beneath such a tree, which became known as a bodhi, or 'enlightened' tree. The black background brings a feeling of mystery to the painting."

Saisunee

"Ars longa, Vita brevis — Art is long, life is short. I like this quote from -Silpa Bhirasri.

"My name is Saisunee Supina, or 'Nan.' I was born in Chiang Mai in 1983 and studied printing at the Rajamangala University of Technology in Lanna, Chiang Mai.

"When I was in school, I had numerous opportunities to exhibit my work, which is why I continue to like creating artwork. I've done this since 1997.

"I collaborated with Royal Flora Ratchaphruek in Chiang Mai and with several hotels, spas, and cafes in Thailand and overseas, creating canvas art and pillar paintings.

"Inspiration for my work comes from natural movements, such as the rhythm of plants, trees, or leaves, and I blend it with my experience in the arts, Thai cultures, and Buddhism. I want everybody who sees these pieces to touch them and be impressed by Thai art.

"I'm still learning new techniques and putting what I've learned into practice at work, and I hope everyone enjoys it. Thank you kindly."
