"The vitality and adventurous energy of the Costa Rican forests inspire a splendid design that captures the essence of the tropical jungle. Artisan Kattia Lopez uses a calabash gourd to create the leaf pendant that embellishes this unique necklace, painting it in an elegant terracotta hue that symbolizes enthusiasm. As a way to enrich the design's natural aura, Kattia adds pinewood beads to the brown cord and finishes the accessory with a handy sliding knot that can be adjusted to your liking."

"My name is Kattia López, and I was born in Costa Rica. While my parents were not artists, my paternal grandfather inspired me to work with gourds. My first artwork was an oil painting of orchids that I sold. For the past 13 years, I have been dedicated to my art. Nature, its flora, and fauna greatly inspire me.
"In 2010, after recovering from a lung operation, I delved into the world of handicrafts. Since then, I have sought to improve my artisanal techniques by studying at various institutions. In 2012, I joined the Identity Crafts program of the Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT), where I gained knowledge about our local and national identity.
"For my work, I have received several accolades, including an award from Fumujeres of the National Institute of Women (INAMU) and another from the World Tourism Organization (OMT) for my contribution to national tourism."
