“My name is Iván Martínez and I was born in the state of San Luis Potosí. Since I was very young, I had the good fortune to be in the field of making Talavera-style ceramics. It was my parents who started the heritage of ceramics, and thanks to them I learned their secrets and processes.
“I became interested in creating modern pieces using ancient ceramic techniques, such as baking and high temperature decoration. I decide to focus more on creating colorful designs on general utility pieces for every aspect of the home. Artisan ceramics is one of the main productive activities in Guanajuato, since it was promoted by Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla over 200 years ago. The clay that is used in the ceramics is very rich in this region of Mexico. Each piece is made around or cast in a mold, and later they are passed on for decoration and baking.
“Each piece has a very special sense of inspiration for each member of the team. The main goal is to continue preserving the beautiful tradition that Miguel Hidalgo left behind; as well as capturing a part of each one of us in the beautiful decorations.
“As we are a family, the beginning of this beautiful project implied a lot of commitment from each member. Since we were very young children, we grew up observing the details and processes. Not just the style; but also the preparation. We want to continue growing as an artisan family, creating new and colorful pieces for the utility of everyday life, to give a touch of color to the home.”

Talavera ceramics are my favorites, so I was delighted to find this dispenser. I planned to use it for my favorite lotion instead of the huge manufacturer's container. Unfortunately I was unable to transfer the thick lotion into my beautiful dispenser and will need a different lotion that pours more easily. I love the piece and their work. But I returned the first one they sent and requested a larger one. This next was a bit smaller! Although I was very clear over the phone with the customer service rep, word definitely did not get to the artists. However, I wanted this to finish the set I bought but it’s not really usable for what I want. It looks beautiful though!

I really like it. Now I have two pieces by Ivan on my sink. My only suggestion is that he make the toothbrush holes a bit larger, or perhaps more oval. Itfit one of my toothbrushes, but not the other.I really appreciate his work!

I love the color and whimsy this toothbrush holder brings to our master bath. I am glad one side is fully open, since the holes are too small to fit any of our American-style toothbrushes. This is the reason I took off one star. We keep toothbrushes in the open side.

I received this planter for Christmas. It is much larger than I expected and is the perfect home for a large pot of Sansevieria that I had. I would look best with a plant that is large enough to be seen above the dog's head. The dog motif caught my attention and I love the bright colors as a backdrop for my green plants.

Talavera ceramics are my favorites, so I was delighted to find this dispenser. I planned to use it for my favorite lotion instead of the huge manufacturer's container. Unfortunately I was unable to transfer the thick lotion into my beautiful dispenser and will need a different lotion that pours more easily. The dispenser opening is rather small but probably works well for liquid soap. The pump attachment does not fit the top well. It will not close to get a seal but continues to turn.Once I get the dispenser filled I will retest or try to contrive a fix. Rating currently is for the workmanship, quality, and lovely design of the dispenser.
