Wiracana Hand Fan handcrafted traditional Balinese hand fans

"Wiracana Hand Fan was founded by Wiranantaja in the 1970s to create traditional Balinese hand fans. Although we work with limited resources, we continue improving the quality of our art, and visitors to Bali really like them. We are obsessed with creating high quality designs.

"Today, more than half of our fans are created with the help of machines, like a laser engraver. This has helped almost 80 skilled artisans who are now able to create more hand fans — from ten fans a day to about 1,000 fans a day.

"We use mahogany, pine, sono wood and bone to craft our traditional Balinese fans. Many of our designs are inspired by Indonesian traditional motifs like Java batiks, ikat motifs and Kamasan paintings."

In 2012, Wiracana Hand Fan received the Indonesian Goods Design Selection Award from the President of The Republic of Indonesia at Istana Negara, Jakarta.

I love this fan so much - it effectively keeps me cool and I always get compliments when I use it. The handiwork is beautiful. The only reason for my 4 stars is because the wood is a bit delicate, and a couple of the slats broke. It still works perfectly and folds up nicely, though.

I love this item, beautiful with quality wood work and the elegant black looks so sophisticated. It stands as a art piece in my living room for now but will definitely try it out on hot days this summer at outdoor events. Very pleased!

Looking at the fan online tells one story until you actually have it up close and personal in your own hands. I have put it on a shelf for display and no one will be permitted to hole it except myself. Thank you very much for having such a cherishable item!
