'Sky Reach II' Hand-Shaped Nature Art From a Vintage Tree Root Item ID: 2677683802

Each piece of my nature art are hand shaped from the roots of an ancient 150-year-old Douglas Fir tree that was found in my backyard. The original tree died some 30 years ago and must have stood tall, though lifeless, for quite some time as all of the sap from the tree’s limbs and core collected in its roots. This prevented decay and has made the wood not just heavy, but also beautifully patterned in luminous shades of gold, rich browns almost black and even reds.

The goal for each piece is to remind you that nature is living Earth art that creates new masterpieces every day. In addition, by providing a spiritual anchor to the Earth and a daily reminder of the interconnectedness of all beings on this planet, Earth Caretaker Nature Art is a way to honour your love of the Earth and a place to capture aspects of your personal relationship with the Earth – be this a special leaf you saw in the Fall, your favourite crystal, a stone that called to you on the beach or a bird feather that you found on a hiking trail.

There are three collections that compose my handmade nature art offerings.

My Soul Connections Collection of nature altars are stump pieces of various sizes and thicknesses from 4-6 inches to 10-12 inches in width and approx. 1.5 inches to 2 inches in height. Each piece is designed to represent the four elements earth, fire, air and water in some way and include a small blue or amber tea LED light, a meta-physical stone and a small hand thrown pottery dish. The pottery dish can be used to add your own unique offerings to the altar or for incense burning. Each piece is one of a kind and a rubbed with three coats of urethane. These are designed for a home side table, fireplace hearth or mantle or atop a chest of drawers or bookcase.

My River Stones Collection of nature art includes small (3 to4 inch high complex pieces of root that are mounted on an 8 to 10 inches high black iron circular or oval stand with hag stones from the Baltic Sea and a polished piece of copper. Each piece of vintage tree root is one of a kind and a rubbed with three coats of urethane. The hag stones have natural holes in them formed either by running water or organisms that bore into them and are most often found on ocean beaches. They are considered to be powerful protective talismans representing the continuous and transformative power of flowing water. Copper is a powerful energy conductor that speaks of balance, spiritual growth and the smoothing of rough edges necessary for enabling change.

My Earth Spirits Collection of nature art includes large one-of-a-kind root pieces that have been mounted on cast iron vintage lamp stands. Most are between 12 and 18” tall, though a few are made from larger, heavier and more complex root systems and can weigh as much as 20 pounds. Each piece is one of a kind and a rubbed with three coats of danish oil. and has at least one healing stone mounted in a place that called to me. Other stones can be added in whatever way one wishes as can beads, crystals or energy jewelry.
