“My name is Javier Eskenazi Cauvi. I was born to a large family, with 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Our house was in a seaside resort on the Peruvian coast, and since we were children we learned to work with wood by repairing the fishing boats. We enjoyed it a lot. We repaired them by hand with chisels and gouges and oil and hammers, and then in our free time with the leftover wood we made surfboards. And so we played on the shores of the sea and in the sand. We also made shotguns with broomsticks, garters and clothes hangers; they were our weapons to play at war, and we shot coca cola caps as ammunition. They were innocent games, and believe me that the ones I recall lifted our humble hearts with love, laughter and smiles that to this day we remember with joy.
“Since I was a child, I liked working with wood to make my own toys. Over time I learned to make art from a log stranded by the sea; vases, shelves, frames and also some necklaces, earrings and bracelets for sale, and it turned out well.
“I have lived in Costa Rica for a little more than 20 years, a beautiful country with exotic beaches and excellent wood to work with. Among them is teak wood, and so with this noble tree I began to make art in teak in an artisanal way. Today I do my work with specialized machines to make bowls and deep spaces, such as lathes and wood planes. Then they are finished with fine almond oils, letting their precious natural beauty dazzle.
“Each of my products is made by hand with a lot of love. I hope you like them. My products are for you; I am here to serve you.”
