"My challenge when I am in front of a blank canvas is to always create something new. I experience a true encounter with myself, becoming immersed in my soul. It is like giving birth to a child. My road to painting suffered a detour that was corrected only when my children were already grown up. I returned to painting after 20 years of being separated from canvases and paints, and I haven't stopped since. I sold all of my works and became increasingly excited by my travels. I became familiar with the paintings of famous artists in museums in the United States and Europe.

"I paint without a previous outline, directly on the canvas. I prefer to always paint new themes and styles, as I find it difficult to copy. I am always searching for new techniques, textures, colors, and materials. Among my favorite artists I would select Kandinsky, Klimt, and Rembrandt.

"I hope to achieve commercial success after all these years. My paintings already sell well among a small community in Brazil. Novica makes it possible to open new horizons and new markets – it is an extraordinary channel of communication."

The work of Maria Marques has been exhibited extensively throughout Rio de Janeiro.
