Luis and Jessica hand-crafted porcelain home decor

"We are a married couple, Luis and Jessica, who emigrated from Venezuela to Costa Rica with the aim of having a better future. In Venezuela, we dedicated ourselves to creating crafts for special occasions, painting ceramics, and crafting iron flower carts. When we arrived in Costa Rica, we were unemployed and had to do various jobs, but we searched for a way to turn our creativity into our work, to express our story through crafts. Although it hasn't been easy, art has opened doors we never imagined.

"We have always enjoyed crafts, but working with cold porcelain has been a challenge. Encouraged by friends, we started selling porcelain figures. The first piece we created was a personalized pen holder, and we liked the result. That's when we decided to buy porcelain and gradually began making our own handmade porcelain crafts. Now, we teach women and children in workshops how to create figures with cold porcelain. In the future, we would like to have a large crafts store and offer classes so that others can learn what we know and create their own crafts.

"The part we enjoy the most about our work is seeing how a piece of clay transforms into something unique, how it comes to life and takes shape. It is a spectacular thing to witness and experience. This craft-making business is a family venture, we all contribute to make it work. Our art is inspired by the beauty that this wonderful country offers us. Seeing the abundant flora and fauna inspires us and makes us love Costa Rica even more. This country has seen us grow as artisans and has given us the opportunity to be here and develop ourselves in an exceptional way.

"We would like each person who owns a piece from us to know that it carries a mark of our lives, an experience, a moment. They are not commercial pieces - they represent a great journey from the time we left Venezuela until now. We hope they feel a little bit of our story in their lives."
