This wood sculpture far surpassed my expectations. Upon the package arriving, let me tell you that much care and dedication was taken to protect this piece of art during shipment. It was wrapped at least 8 times with heavy paper and strategically place support in the open areas of the piece. There is a story to Owls in my family, it goes like this.My Father had one for a pet when he was a child and when it died his Father taxidermied it on a stick. and my very wise Father passed it to my older brother. It hung in his bedroom in the corner for our whole childhoods. I don't know what happened to it, but today sadly we closed up the house because my father has passed on. I bought this for my brother so he could perhaps remember our childhood with some fondness.

This wood sculpture far surpassed my expectations. Upon the package arriving, let me tell you that much care and dedication was taken to protect this piece of art during shipment. It was wrapped at least 8 times with heavy paper and strategically place support in the open areas of the piece. I knew that someone put as much love in to the shipping as they did to create the piece. BEAUTIFUL!!

When my yellow lab passed on, I lost my other half. We spoke/barked silently and understood each other completely. She is/was incredibly compassionate and part of all we did. My heart still aches and I have a little "altar" of her on her breakfast table (a human's bedside breakfast table; just the right height for her to eat and drink water) along with other lab figurines. “I joined Novica in 2001, introduced by a friend. Since then, I have succeeded step by step in achieving my dreams. Made a house for my little family, sent the kids to school and bought a motorbike.

How can a small sculptor like me receive a regular income, when usually a sculptor's life is swayed by uncertainty? Now I can even set aside my income little by little to realize the simple house my family dreams of.

I have helped the economy of the people around me, both friends and neighbors. Their economic dependence on my sales now makes me even more productive and creative in my work. Original Artist Story

Born on February 21st, 1978 in Gianyar, Made Wirata is a carver of natural talent. Gianyar is renowned producing famous Balinese artist and artisans, and Wirata's family has been dedicated to this art for generations.

Wirata first learned to carve from his father, who specialized in a particular style of carving locally known as sri bunga as well as keris - a traditional dagger. When he finished elementary school, he apprenticed with his uncle, who taught him to carve traditional images. In 1993, his interest in art lead him to learn from a cousin how the carving of modern statuettes. Wirata began to sell his work in order to sustain his studies and now several galleries in Bali are collecting his creations.
