"Artisan Luis Morales of Mexico crafts a charming ceramic Catrina to grace your mantel or shelf. Formed by hand from clay, her ensemble is carefully painted in red with white flowers and ruffles. Her hair is braided and she holds a magnificent platter. The elegant figure is based on a satirical etching created by Mexican artist Jose Guadalupe Posada around 1910-1913. With his etching, Posada poked fun at those Mexican natives who tried to emulate the fashion and habits of the European aristocracy. Today, la Catrina has become the instantly recognizable icon of Dia de los Muertos (Mexico's Day of the Dead)."

Lithographer Jose Guadalupe Posadas created the skeletal Catrina, who was later immortalized in the murals of Diego Rivera.

"I think what I like best about my work is that I can set my imagination free and let it take me where it will.

"I love combining colors and focusing on the small details in my sculptures. And this is precisely what gives my designs a special and unique touch.

"I find a lot of inspiration in the natural world surrounding me. When I'm connected to nature while working, it gives me a feeling of peace. It increases my faith in my work and in the family legacy I'm preserving.

This is a very nice Catrina. What impressed me the most is that given my past experience with this type of ceramics, I was hesitant to order it just because I was afraid it may not make it on the shipping. Well, I had to use my old dissection skills to unwrap it. The packaging was superbly done. Now to the piece, it is as beautiful as it shows in the picture. It is elegant and genuinely "coqueta."
