I am a very sociable, lively and humorous person. Kwadwo Antwi is my name and I was born on March 26 in the Eastern Region of Ghana.
I developed a love for carving at a tender age. Mr. Gordon, my late uncle, was a very skillful carver. I used to sit with him at his workshop to observe how he went about his carving when I returned from school. I just loved the beautiful items he carved along with other carvers at his workshop. He would sometimes give me pieces of wood to try my hands at sandpapering. Gradually, as I improved on each skill, I went a step further. Not long after I could carve beautiful Items. That is how it all began.
After I completed school, I opted to pursue carving as my career. I worked with my Uncle for 15 years. Before he passed on, he handed over his workshop to me and since then, I have continued to produce quality items just as I was trained. It took hard work, determination and consistent practice to become a master of this art. Now I train people.
I use sese and tweneboa woods but it is not easy getting them, I have to travel long distances to supply of the wood. My favorite thing about this art is the finishing. The challenging part is the initial process. I get my inspiration from my customers who usually commend and motivate me.
It's not all about work, work and work. I make time to relax with friends after a long day's work. I recall one of these moments when we were sharing jokes. We burst out in laughter and before we realized we had all fallen off the bench on which we were sitting!
It is my dream to expand my venture, train more people, and increase my customer base both nationally and internationally.
