My name is Joana Addo, and my specialty is finishing wood carvings. My friends say I'm hard-working, friendly, and religious-I don't joke around when it comes to God.

I used to sell fruits at the Aburi Art Village, and noticed that the craft business was lucrative, so I became interested. The colors of the crafts attracted me, so I started finishing them. My sister's husband taught me the craft, as I intend to teach others one day. I got closer to the carvers and the finishers at Aburi, and this is how I learned and mastered the craft.

It wasn't easy starting on my own, but after working with my sister's husband for some time, I was able to start my own shop. I didn't have anyone to support me during my days in junior high school; I had to support myself. I am happy to have come this far.

Acrylic paint, sese wood, potassium, and aluminum plate are the materials I use. These materials are not difficult to work with. Finishing my work is my favorite thing about this craft. I get inspiration from nature and the environment. I work alone, but I am always on the lookout for good finishing artisans that can craft my designs.

One funny moment that happened in my life was when my kids were playing around at home, making funny dance moves. I never stop laughing whenever I remember their dance moves.

I want to expand my craft and teach others. My craft has been beneficial to my local community, since I have been able to employ a couple of people to help sand my pieces.
