My name is David Raful, and I was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, in 1976. From a young age, I was a very creative child, inspired by Greek and Roman deities, always hungry for knowledge and curious about the world around me. I started dedicating myself to the world of art and craftsmanship at an early age, inspired by one of my great-aunts who taught me how to sew. I have always enjoyed painting, sculpture, and design, and I have been working with recycled materials for over 14 years, developing my own brand and collaborating with workshops to achieve professional finishes. My friends would describe me as creative, persistent, and bold. I am proud to represent El Salvador at the Madrid Design Biennale and to have a collection piece in the Milwaukee Art Museum. Although I have faced challenges, such as my unexpected participation in the ICFF'09 fair, I have managed to overcome them and turn them into opportunities. My interest in art stems from my passion for fashion, design, and cultural exploration. I dream of having my own store where my designs are recognized for their contribution to recycling through fashion. I have learned a lot from the artisans I work with, and I am always looking to learn more. I use recycled materials, particularly leather garments, which I repurpose to give them new life. The most beautiful part of my art is seeing how people appreciate and use my products. However, I am challenged by the stigma some people have towards recycled products, believing they are of poor quality. My art contributes to environmental preservation by generating less waste and minimizing the consumption of new leather. My handmade recycled designs, crafted by Salvadoran communities, are unique and attract attention worldwide. In addition to my art, I enjoy caring for my plants, and I have been recognized with awards such as CONTEMPO EL SALVADOR 2008. I have also represented El Salvador at the Madrid Design Biennale. I am grateful to Novica customers for contributing to the world through my recycled products.
