“I was born in Bali in a small village named Tampak Siring, in September of 1963. The village where I was born is known for its culture and art, and also for its natural beauty. My father used to sell handicrafts at tourist attractions. I also used to help my father sell the handicrafts when I was a kid. My father worked hard to provide for all of his children. I am the fifth child of eight children.

“I spent my childhood mostly in Tampak Siring, as I went to elementary school there. I was interested in handicrafts since I was a kid. Usually after school I helped my father with his sales, and after that I made bracelets from coconut shell and sold them. Working hard is something I am accustomed to. My father told me that if I wanted to be a good man, I needed to work hard.

“Even though my father was just a merchandise and handicrafts seller, he provided for my education until I graduated from senior high school in Gianyar, Bali. At the age of 23, I started to work in a hotel in Nusa Dua. Yet, I did not forget about my handicrafts; I would still do handicrafts in my spare time. One day I discovered a specific handicraft--brass and copper jewelry. When I tried it, it turned out that the income from brass and copper jewelry was more than I got at the hotel.

“I am married now to a very beautiful woman, and we are blessed with 1 daughter and 2 sons. Back when I was still a daily worker and my wife was still in training, we had our first child. Life was not easy back then, but I worked hard. I am so grateful having children, and there are many things that have changed since I became a father. I feel like I have more responsibility, but I am enjoying it.

“There were also times when I got rejected when offering my products to a local store. And then there was a moment when my products were welcomed by one art shop in Denpasar. For the first time, I felt proud and happy. And now many art shops want to sell my products. I also have my own shops. Things got better when my friends told me about NOVICA, and the fact that NOVICA loves my products is special for me. I hope my products will be accepted by Novica customers; thanks to NOVICA for giving me a chance to promote my products.”
