Celadon Ceramic Elephant Incense Holders in Blue Pair 'Baby Elephants in Blue' Item ID: 2677082611
$27.99This is your own listing item.
"Charoensri of Thailand creates this pair of ceramic incense holders in the form of an elephant carrying a lotus flower, both important symbols in Thai culture. The lotus flower is often a symbol of enlightenment, and the elephant has long been celebrated for its longevity, endurance, and strength. The incense holders are glazed in blue with a crackled finish and have a small hole at the top for placing an incense stick. They can also be used with cone incense.
The artisan describes how she began her journey in ceramics: 'I visited a friend's ceramics factory and I observed each step in the process. Seeing my interest, my friend persuaded me to try this work. Immediately, I began learning from skilled artisans. Finally, I was ready to design my own ceramics.'"

"Seeing my interest, our friend persuaded me to work from home, as he could use more help. My husband agreed, and I said yes.
"Immediately, I began learning from skilled artisans. They taught me to how to select and work with clay, to prepare the glaze and to select the firing temperature. Finally, I was ready to complete a piece and launched a workshop with 30 artisans to work with me. Unfortunately, an economic crisis hit us hard and we had to downside.I decided to offer our skills to another factory as well.
"Then I began designing our ceramics. I'm still developing my work and continue learning about this art form.
"During the dry season, the people who live in the mountains come down and help me. I hope you like our work."
