This black walnut bowl isn't very black, it is primarily sapwood with three half moons of dark brown heartwood.
This was a very fast growing tree to be 12" in diameter with almost no heartwood. The cream colored sapwood has an olive cast to it. This bowl came from a fork in the tree. The intersection at the fork yields three "hearts" and the lovely crotch burl figure.
This walnut crotch bowl has chatoyant figure. The brown stripe looks like a river running through it. This walnut bowl has a tapered, undercut rim and a raised foot. It would be the perfect wedding present or anniversary gift.
Food safe, natural, oil finish.

My job is to make something I can be proud of and highlight the natural beauty of each piece of wood I work with. Everything in my store I have made by hand in my workshop in rural North Carolina. Most of my wood is locally sourced but I do work with some exotics from South America and Africa.
