Wayan Dirga wood sculptures

"My name is Wayan Dirga and I was born in 1969. Most of my family members are carvers, for it is a family legacy that has endured several generations. You could say I was born with a talent to carve, which I developed by merely observing my parents and relatives at work every day. My inspiration comes from Balinese customs and traditions.

"Competition is hard here in Bali, for there are many good and expert carvers. This makes the life of the carver a very uncertain one because it makes it difficult to sell our work.

"I'm grateful for what you are doing to promote artisans' works to the whole world. Hopefully, my artwork will be accepted, and I will appreciate any criticism that would improve my work."
