Welcome Home
Not long ago, most of us were artisans. Today's creators tether us to that forgotten past. Welcome home, we might start saying to each other. Welcome Home.
"Catrina wears a whimsical hat with feathers and smiles a flirty grin. This sculpture by Armando Ramirez commemorates Mexico's Day of the Dead. The Catrina name refers to death personified who is always dressed in exuberant fashion and colors in order to lure mortals. Always creative, Ramirez recycles castoff metal. Wire mesh becomes a broad-brimmed bonnet while sheet metal scraps are transformed into her gown. A spring, chain and wire are also used. Ramirez does not give his sculptures a fine polished finish, therefore smudges and scratches may be present."
